Rolling Stone Magazine is on the phone, ladies and gentlemen

Here's what the Brazilian edition of Rolling Stone had to say about us in their October issue:

"Apart from their Stephen Fry-esque sense of humour, Nancy's sound is refined, sophisticated, heavy and aggresive - all at once - and not necessarily part of the already standardized indie underground".

Click on the picture above to read all about it, OK ?

Now, in regard to the bit where they quote us on the importance of artistic integrity and not wanting to receive orders from a multinational media conglomerate, this is just not true. We'd love to be slaves to the Bertelsmann Music Group. But we still love "In Rainbows". Thanks, Radiohead.

Nancy is Pop Tarts Suck Toasted' s Band of the Week

We're the band of the week at the super hot Pop Tarts Suck Toasted blog ! A big thanks to the good people of NY.

Band of the week: Nancy

In the history of me selecting a band of the week I have rarely selected a band from outside of the United States. This has not been done purposely but I do tend to highlight bands from my general region because I am partial to live music and this affords me a great opportunity to see bands more frequently. However, some bands are just too good to ignore wherever they are from and that is just the case with Brazil's Nancy. Obviously Brazil has once again become a hot bed of the indie music world thanks to the Tropicalia compilation and a number of younger bands that are poised to take the ropes. Nancy is definitely one of those bands to watch out for.

Most of the songs on their myspace page are sung in Portuguese, a language I am not at all familiar with, yet the voice of lead singer Camila Zamith is so powerful and captivating that I can almost understand the words she sings to me. The music behind her fluctuates between loud and soft which adds extra strength to each verse and each chorus. Some songs start quietly before exploding into a frenzy of sounds, lulling you into a false calm and then ripping you apart, but all the while staying melodic throughout. Their music affects you all the way through.

They have an album posted on myspace which I have yet to purchase but probably will do in the very near future. For now their myspace page is playing whenever I log onto the computer and it keeps me company as I type out these little blog posts for all of you to read. Here's hoping the band keep recording beautiful music and maybe make it out to the States for a few shows here and there.

Nancy on Los Angeles' AM Music Blog.

Arpit Mehta writes really well and so he did in a review of our EP on his AM Music Blog. Here it is:

Hailing from Brazil, this group infuses elements of rock, jazz, and pop to produce a sound that's unique and very catchy. Even though most of the songs on the EP, As Doença, are in Portuguese, the singer, Camila Zamith has this beautiful and enchanting voice that holds your ear prisoner despite the language barrier. You're tied to your chair and you can't move a muscle, but you don't want to. The instrumentals backing her are just as amazing. Of course, since they were an instrumental band before Zamith's addition, that makes a whole lot of sense. But nonetheless, the result is absolutely worth listening to.

A couple of the songs that stand out, in my opinion, are 'Goiânia Rock City', which starts out mellow, and builds into an amazing melody, and 'Two Blue Lights' (on the actual cd), the only song in English that gives you a nice insight into the songwriting. I'm putting both of these up so that you can check them out. The guys and gal are in the process of recording a full-length right now, which should be out later this year. They'll be going on tour shortly thereafter, and when they do, you better catch them if you can!
